House of Bonsai ImportedDue to its high popularity, House of Bonsai will work on acquiring more of this imported species from overseas to restock in the future.
Special Notes about Japanese Red Maples:
All of our Japanese Red Maples have been grafted for a more robust tree altogether. We use a Japanese Green Maple rootstock to encourage the overall Maple bonsai tree to be more disease resistant and have a longer lifespan. If you receive one and you notice green leaves close to the base of the trunk, please remove them to redirect the tree’s growth hormones to flow to the top of the tree. This will stimulate the tree to produce more of the red leaves that you desire within several weeks during the spring and summer months.

'Shin Deshojo' or just 'Deshojo' for short is probably the "Undesputed King" of all Japanese Red Maples for use in bonsai! It's our most highly requested variety whenever we're contacted by a customer looking for a large maple bonsai. This species of maple is famous for its rich "firetruck red" colored leaves that grow in the spring. It fades to a light green with bronze-orange edges. During the warm months, it will grow lots of new shoots after trimming. It has a very strong growth pattern but miraculously stays a compact dwarf size overall. This ability helps it develop great branches quickly for ramification. For the fall months, it demands everyone's attention again by transitioning into a bright orange red before dropping its leaves.
'Deshojo' is a hardy variety of maple that better tolerates hotter climates more so than your average maple bonsai tree. However, due to its soft thin leaves and small size to be enjoyed as bonsai, please be cautious and provide some shade to avoid any leaf burn throughout the year. When maples are kept small, they are much more sensitive to their environments than their large yard tree counterparts. Although they are more tolerant to urban pollution if kepts within big city limits.

For Deciduous Trees:
Please note that during the mid to late fall months, deciduous trees will lose all of their leaves/foliage to go into dormancy for winter. They will have barren branches and will be extra sensitive to shipping stress during mid-fall and all of winter. If we try to ship them during this dormancy time, it is considered extremely high risk. We reserve the right to refuse to take orders for these trees during their dormancy period from around October to February.

The following pictures are general images of each species. Each tree looks slightly different due to the shape, trimming and season of the year. If you want a particular tree as exactly pictured, please go to our eBay store.
