This species is a rarer cultivar of juniper; the most popular tree type used as bonsai for beginners. Kishi Shimpaku Junipers have a soft foliage with a rounded leaf end unlike the spikey ends of the more common Juniper varieties. Their compact small medium forest green foliage grows into branches over time. During the summer months, it has strong growth patterns. The branches stay flexible for a longer period of time compared to other bonsai materials. It's possible to make virtually any sort of style with this species; especially since it has more tapered branches that can showcase finer branch ramification on the bonsai. It's an evergreen tree, so it can be enjoyed all year long without dropping all of its leaves.
An adorably tiny wired specimen like this is still very flexible to any trunk or branch shaping. The foliage has already started naturally forming cloud-like pads on its delicate branches. Thanks to the Kisu Shimpaku having more naturally tapered branches, detailed branch ramification work is possible even on such a small scale in the Shohin size (roughly 6 - 8 inches in height).
