Deer Scarer / Shishi Odoshi

They are a traditional Japanese water feature design that incorporates bamboo as both a visual and auditory element to your Japanese or Asian Garden Landscaping aesthetic. They give a traditional feel as the gentle thudding sound helps to reflect on the peaceful passage of time. Water flows from a bamboo spout slowly to fill one end of the bamboo tipping water collecting container piece which moves in a see-sawing motion. When the container piece is full, the water is then emptied from the tipping arm into a water basin or pond, whilst the tipping arm is propelled back into position with an audible thud on a sounding rock below.
