Maples are a traditional favorite for bonsai lovers all over the world. With their dynamic visual differences every season, it's always something new to look at with maples. Especially their famous colorful transitions as they shed their soft foliage during the fall months. They do that to get ready to hibernate for the winter since all maples are deciduous trees.

Trident Maples or Three-Toothed Maples are native to China, Korea and Japan. They are the most versatile type of maple to work with for any styles and all sizes of bonsai. It can develop fine web-like branch ramification and dense light green foliage that turns into spectacular shades of bright orange and red during the autumn. It's a strong growing tree that's tolerant to heavy pruning work, drier soil conditions and polluted air environments. The rock bases help give it a wilder look. All of the roots are naturally cling onto the rock with age.

Trident Maples are a hardier variety of maple that better tolerates hotter climates more so than your average maple bonsai tree. They have semi-drought resistance in case you forget to water them for a day or two when its warm outside. However, due to its soft thin leaves and small size to be enjoyed as bonsai, please be cautious and provide some shade to avoid any leaf burn throughout the year. When maples are kept small, they are much more sensitive to their environments than their large yard tree counterparts. Although they are more tolerant to urban pollution and salt if kepts within big city limits or nearby the ocean coastline.

For this specialty specimen style, we've utilized the Trident Maple's tough fiberous root system and placed the rootball higher up above the soil line by binding the roots on top of a medium sized rock. After many years of coaxing and training, the tree has now accepted the rock as an important foundation to continue to cling to as it beautifully ages. The addition of the rock gives the bonsai a more "raw nature" look to it; to mimic some of the challenging environments that natural maples would be forced to survive in the wild mountain forests in Asia.

For Deciduous Trees:
Please note that during the mid to late fall months, deciduous trees will lose all of their leaves/foliage to go into dormancy for winter. They will have barren branches and will be extra sensitive to shipping stress during mid-fall and all of winter. If we try to ship them during this dormancy time, it is considered extremely high risk. We reserve the right to refuse to take orders for these trees during their dormancy period from around October to February.

PLEASE NOTE:
The following pictures are general images of each species. Each tree looks slightly different due to the shape, trimming and season of the year. If you want a particular tree as exactly pictured, please go to our eBay store.

House of Bonsai reserves the right to delay on shipping any live plant order by several days; in order to attempt to decrease the high risk of major shipping related stress that may shock the plants during extreme weather conditions (too hot or cold). If we are purposely delaying your order because of this, we will notify you via email. Before you submit an order, please be mindful of your local weather and time of year. If there is major damage (ex: plant is dead or many branches are broken), please contact your third party shipping carrier (ex: USPS, FedEx, UPS) to submit an insurance claim with them as we are not able to assist with that matter. The fault is with the third party shipping carrier for such damage since it happened out of our hands. We are not responsible for any damages after the order leaves our facility since they were out of our control. If the bonsai tree is still alive but weakened due to shock (leaves are yellow-brownish or leaves have fallen off) then we are happy to assist in proving post-delivery plant shock care instructions via email to revive the plant. Please notify us by email of the issue within 48 hours upon receiving the order in hand. Please email us at houseofbonsai@gmail.com with your Order # and the keywords "Shock After Delivery" in the title so we can assist ASAP. For further details, please read our full "Shipping & Return Policy" under About Us in our top menu.
